Notice for potential New patients in our practice

Our practice has recently been inundated with new patient requests.

Only one GP within our practice currently has her patient books open to new patients. However, new patient initial consultation appointments are fully booked until December.

Though we understand that the situation of having to find a new doctor can be distressing for patients, our priority as a practice has always been to ensure that our doctors have enough time to provide care for each patient currently registered.

With this in mind, we have placed a temporary hold on any further new patient registrations. This will be reassessed in early December when we have had time to triage the patients already registered with us and ensure that our doctors are not overwhelmed with additional bookings.

For patients, who require access to a new GP more urgently, there are several fee-paying practices and bulk-billing medical centres within the local areas of Corrimal, Corrimal East, Towradgi, Bellambi & Woonona.

We thank you for your understanding in this matter.

(** Our practice is a full fee-paying practice. Patients with a government-issued blue pensioner or green health-care concession card are eligible to be bulk-billed.)

In the case of emergency, call 000 and ask for an ambulance.

National Cancer Screening Register

Are you aware of the Australian Government’s National Cancer Screening Register?

The register is aimed at all Australian’s who are eligible for the FREE Bowel Cancer or Cervical Cancer screening program. Invitations and reminders to participate in these screening programs are linked to your Medicare record, so it’s important to ensure your Medicare details are kept up to date. Your regular GP can still send you a reminder also. To learn more, the National register websites can provide more information.

2019 Fees Update

Out-of-pocket costs for full fee paying patients range between $20 and $25 per consultation at our practice.

July appointment schedule changes

During July, our practice will be working on an amended appointment schedule as our doctors take some time off.

During this time, we may not always be able to offer our patient’s an appointment with their regular GP.

If you need an Urgent appointment, please phone and speak with our receptionists so they can assist with arranging a suitable appointment for you. Please note that reception opens at 7.30am Monday to Friday and we have an allocation of emergency appointments set aside for each day.

In the case of a medical emergency please phone 000 to request ambulance assistance.

Have you had your Flu shot? Now is the best time to get it!

get your flu shot

The flu is different from the common cold and can be severe enough to leave you bedridden for days or even send you to hospital. Influenza causes an estimated 13,500 hospitalisations and more than 3000 deaths among Australians each year.

Now is the optimum time to get your flu shot. It takes around 2 weeks for the vaccine to work. We have plenty of stock for those who are eligible for the free subsidised vaccination. You can see your GP or book in with our friendly nurses to get yours now.

Did you know that having the flu shot CAN NOT give you a case of the Flu? The virus in the flu shot has already been killed so it can’t make you sick. Some people will have a mild reaction from the injection which may include mild fever and body aches. Why do some people get sick after the flu shot? This is because they have caught another infection at around the same time as receiving their flu shot.

Even if you’re fit and well, the flu shot is still recommended. Many of the people hospitalised last year had no underlying illnesses.

People at higher risk of complications, may be eligible for free vaccination including all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over; all children aged 6 months to less than 5 years of age; pregnant women; people aged 65 years and over; individuals aged 5 years and over with medical risk conditions – contact us to find out more.

Heart Health Check – are you eligible?

Heart Health Check

Heart disease and stroke account for almost 30% of all deaths in Australia. The Australian government has introduced a new Heart Health Check which can be completed by your GP. The aim of this check is to identify the development or risk of Cardiovascular disease at an early stage to enable more timely and appropriate medical intervention. Adults over 45  (30 and above for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons) with no existing CVD may be eligible to have this check. Speak to your doctor for more information or to make an appointment.
